3rd April, 1935.
Dear Sirs,
With reference to previous correspondence on the subject of
the British Empire and China Trade Fair which you propose to organise
during December, 1955, I am directed by the Coersåttoo of the Chamber
of Commerce to corroy their appreciation of your ourtesy in placing
full information before the Special Sub-Cassittoe vhlok was appointed
to enquire into the project, in response to requests for advics fro
members of the Charber.
the
It is realised that you have already done a good deal of
preliminary work. Nevertheless, the General Condtive urges upon you
very seriously in your own as well as in the general interest
desirability of postponing the Fair for at least another year, or wit÷1
uiti)
conditions are more favourable. In the present chaotic state of the In
world's exchanges, merahants are confronted with inar:asingly difficult
ouniitions, all operating against a free flow of trade. In these cirqu
stances, a True Fair could not have any beneficial effect. All the
signs point to a further international effort being undertaken to re-
establisł. the world's carencies on a satisfactory basis and when the #
has been done efforts to increase the flow of trade are much more likely
to be successful. To do so before, would be to taice a dangerous risk.
I am, dear airs,
Yours faithfully,
(3gå.) #. P. Kary.
Secretary.
